Source Note
This is not a tombstone, but a memorial stone erected sometime later to honor Revolutionary War soldiers who had lived in Great Barrington. The birth years shown on the stone are incorrect for all three men, and Hugh Humphrey's death year is also incorrect. It is not known if David Humphrey's death year is correct. Per Robert Humphrey's Revolutionary War pension application, he returned to New Windsor, Orange County, New York about 1780 where he remained until his death. David Humphrey was born in 1762 or 1763. David Humphrey 71 years old and living in Claverack, Columbia County, New York in 1833 when he gave his deposition for his brother's pension application. In the pension application, he state that he was 13 years old when his brother enlisted in July of 1776. It is unlikely that David Humphrey was a Revolutionary War soldier because of his young age. In the 1840 census for Hudson (Ward 1), Columbia County, New York, David Humphrey is shown, but he is not designated as a Revolutionary War soldier. Neither Robert or David Humphrey died or were buried in Great Barrington, Berkshire County, Massachusetts.
