Family Note
Hugh's obituary states that he moved to Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1840. He married Elizabeth Lovell there on May 30, 1843 - the date taken from their marriage certificate.

Elizabeth Lovell was born March 4, 1827 (she died June 26, 1890, 63 years, 3 months and 22 days - this data comes from a another researcher who apparently has seen the tombstone). She is the daughter of David Lovell.

Elizabeth Lovell died after her husband’s death as she is mentioned as a survivor in his obituary. She died June 26, 1890 in Prairie City, McDonough County, Illinois at the age of 63 years, 3 months, and 22 days. She is NOT buried in the Prairie City Cemetery, McDonough County, Illinois (There is an Elizabeth Humphrey buried in this cemetery, but the dates for this tombstone are incorrect. A volunteer who has searched the cemetery stated "I searched the stated plot or section and could not find the grave. I have searched twice and cannot find her monument. According to the (Find A Grave) memorial she is buried on the same lot and block as the other Elizabeth Humphrey.").

Hugh and Elizabeth had 3 children:

Levi (abt 1845 - prob bef 1860 @ 16y not in census)

Susan Alwilda (17 May 1846 - 24 Oct 1917) m. Andrew Perry Estus (28 Apr 1843 - 12 Apr 1924)
    c1. Henry (1869 - bef 1870)
    c2. Minnie May (May 1871 - 22 Feb 1935) m. 8 Oct 1896, Albert Enos Taft
    c3. Nora E. (1873 - ) m. _____ Hastings
    c4. Milton Tony (5 Aug 1875 - 13 Feb 1946) - never married
    c5. Daisy Belle (1879 - 20 May 1944) m. Oscar F. Baughman

David Henry Humphrey (16 Mar 1856 - 21 Jan 1924)

My grandmother stated in her notes that they had another child Francis/Frances Marion that died at age 18, however if this were true, the child would have appeared in at least one census record, and no child is found. One of David Lovell's step-children was named Francis M. (1850 age 10), and one of his children by his second wife, Levi, is found in 1880 working in the livery of the household of the 27 year old Francis Marion. These may be mere coincidences, or perhaps he lived with the family for a short while.

About 1856, Hugh and his family moved to Vermont, McDonough County, Illinois. In 1868, the family moved again, this time to Cass County, Missouri. They eventually moved back to Illinois, to McDonough County, and settled there in Prairie City in 1874, where they are found in the 1880 Federal Illinois Census. Hugh is listed as age 61 and Elizabeth as age 53.
